What is a single-run time trial with 32 participants?
In a single-run time trial, 32 participants get exactly one scored attempt – no repeat, no drop time. That one stopped time alone decides the placement, which makes the format especially quick to organise and creates an instantly understandable ranking. Unlike the multi-run variants there is no second chance: a strong run is rewarded immediately, a slip cannot be ironed out. The 32 participants run against the clock one after another, and the ranking comes straight from the recorded times.

Time Trial - Single Run with 32 participants: how scoring works
Single-run scoring differs from the other time-trial variants in that every participant has exactly one scored run – no attempts to pick from, no sum and no average, just that one time.

What is a single-run time trial with 32 participants good for?
Single-run scoring fits wherever there is only one attempt: with 32 participants everyone runs exactly once – ideal for qualifying runs, school and club events, sprint cups or showcase races. Because every second counts immediately it creates maximum tension, and the event stays compact and easy to plan even with a large field.
Each participant gets exactly one attempt, and that single time determines the ranking.
When is a single-run format useful?
It works well when time is limited or when the event should focus on one decisive attempt.
Can I still show live results?
Yes. Every recorded time appears immediately in the current ranking.
Which events is this suitable for?
Ideal for compact timed events with exactly one run per participant, such as club races, school events or showcase competitions.
How long does a single-run time trial with 32 participants take?
Because everyone runs only once, this is the fastest variant. With 32 participants the pure running time is around 4 h on 2 lanes and about 2 h on 4 lanes – each excluding start breaks.
What happens after a false start or fall?
There is no second attempt – the run counts as completed. If you want to allow repeats, use best-time or average scoring instead.
